It includes data on resource consumption, energy use, CO₂ emissions, and other relevant aspects. Obtaining this certification not only reflects the quality of our processes but also our commitment to the environment. FM Approvals is an entity belonging to the international insurance company FM Global, which is dedicated to analysing and validating construction products and systems to ensure that they meet demanding resistance, reaction, and safety criteria, with the aim of reducing risks in buildings used for industrial or commercial activities.

We are pleased to announce that HI-QuadCore 2.0 XT and HI-QuadCore 2.0 CT panels have obtained FM 4471 certification, a recognition that reinforces their position as advanced solutions for high-performance industrial roofing.

What are FM certifications?

An FM certification is a technical recognition that confirms that a product or system has passed rigorous testing, reproduces real-life risk scenarios and maintains reliable performance.

Some key standards for panels are FM 4880, FM 4881 and FM 4471, the latter being the specific standard for insulated metal roofing.

• – This is not a certification of the insulated product.
• – It is a certification of the system, i.e. panel + fixings + joints + installation method.
• – FM Approvals certifies the performance of the installed assembly.
• – The certification is not granted by the panel manufacturer, but by FM Approvals after independent testing.
• – All information can be found on the FM website via Roofnav.
  
  

What is the FM 4471 standard and why is it so important?

The FM 4471 standard applies exclusively to insulated metal roofing systems. It focuses on validating their performance in terms of fire resistance, wind resistance, walkability, and hail impact.

The HI-QuadCore 2.0 XT and HI-QuadCore 2.0 CT roof panel systems have undergone the following tests:

1.Fire performance tests: evaluation of the system’s performance when exposed to direct flames and heat on both sides of the panel. They evaluate:

• – How the insulating core responds to heat.
• – Whether the panel maintains its structural integrity. (Detachment of inflamed particles)
• – Flame spread.
  
  

2.Wind resistance: Simulation of extreme suction and wind pressure to verify the fastening and stability of the system. They evaluate:

• – There must be no detachment, fracture, or deformation of any component.

• – There must be no separation, permanent deformation, detachment, or fracture within the panel cover assembly.
  
  

3.Foot traffic resistance. They evaluate:

• – No perforation of the panel ceiling.
• – No separation or detachment of the side overlaps.
  
  

4.Hail impact: Resist the effects of hail. During this test, the coating is evaluated for signs of punctures, chips, flaking, blisters, cracks, or fissures.

5.Manufacturing audits: FM Approvals periodically audits factories to confirm that the same level of quality as in the initial tests is maintained.

In the world of construction, fire safety is essential. Today, at Huurre, we are celebrating a new success in our range of fire compartmentation solutions. A historic achievement: our HI-QuadCore 2.0 FK DUAL panel breaks the ceiling of fire resistance certificates for organic cores, achieving an EI 120 rating for a thickness of 230 mm.

What does EI 120 mean? 

EI 120 is a classification that indicates that a building element offers fire resistance for 120 minutes, meeting two key criteria:

-E (Integrity): the panel maintains its structure without allowing flames or hot gases to pass through for 120 minutes.

-I (Insulation): it limits heat transmission, preventing the temperature on the unexposed side from exceeding the established limits. The average temperature must not exceed +140°C. At no point must it exceed +180°C during the entire 120-minute period. 

Results that exceed the standard

Although the official certification is EI 120, the test results are even more impressive.

If we analyse the exact result of the test passed, we see that the system achieved 136 minutes for thermal insulation (I) and 245 minutes for structural integrity (E). This information is reflected very concisely and transparently in the technical data sheet.

And what does this mean for the HI-QuadCore 2.0 FK Dual panel range?   

This solution provides high-level compartmentation for not only agri-food constructions but also for any industrial application. It prevents the spread of fire, maintaining its structural integrity and controlling the temperature on the unexposed side, and provides greater protection for people and materials for two uninterrupted hours.

What does QB 42 certification mean and why is it important?

QB 42 certification is a voluntary quality mark, recognized throughout the French construction industry. It is managed by the CSTB and certifies that a product meets quality, performance and regulatory compliance requirements, far beyond what is required by a simple manufacturer’s declaration.

Specifically, in our case, this certification confirms that our panels comply with the requirements of the new NF DTU 45.1, a standardized technical document defining the installation rules for thermal insulation systems for refrigerated buildings and controlled environment premises. Since its recent publication, this DTU has become a key reference for construction projects in France, especially in sensitive sectors such as agri-food.

This certification not only certifies the quality of our products, but also facilitates and guarantees their acceptance on site, providing security for designers, installers and developers.

More than two decades of experience in France

This certification is not an isolated event, but a new milestone in a solid trajectory that we have been building step by step:

• In 2000, HUURRE obtained its first Avis Techniques in France, a positive technical assessment allowing the regulatory use of our products. 
• Subsequently, in 2017, we achieved the DTAs (Document Technique d’Application), a regulatory evolution that further reinforced the validity of our constructive solutions in the country. 
• Today, with the QB 42 certification, we go one step further, aligning ourselves with the latest NF DTU 45.1 requirements and demonstrating, once again, our capacity for adaptation and innovation.

Which panels are certified and where to consult the certificates?

The agri-food sandwich panels that have obtained the certification are:

Both have been specifically designed to meet the hygiene, resistance, and thermal insulation standards required by the agri-food sector, in addition to the criteria defined by the CSTB for the QB 42 mark.

HI-QuadCore 2.0 XT is a sandwich roof panel with an organic insulating core, specially developed to meet the most stringent market demands in terms of both thermal performance and fire behaviour.

Fire performance: REI 60 fire resistance of the HI-QuadCore 2.0 XT DUAL panel.

The Dual version of this panel, presented as HI-QuadCore 2.0 XT DUAL, has been tested and classified with a fire resistance rating of REI 60 at a thickness of 120 mm, which guarantees structural fire resistance for 60 minutes, maintaining integrity, load-bearing capacity and thermal insulation in the event of a fire. This feature makes it an ideal solution for industrial, logistic and high occupancy environments, where safety is a priority.

Thermal insulation and energy efficiency for roofs

Thanks to its high-performance organic core, the XT panel with QuadCore core provides a good thermal performance, contributing significantly to improving building energy efficiency and reducing the demand for air conditioning. Zaragoza is home to a groundbreaking project: the world’s first logistics center designed to achieve the Passivhaus Plus certification—a bold commitment to energy efficiency. Driven by Novaltia Sociedad Cooperativa and designed by Ergo Synergys, this project marks a milestone in the shift toward more responsible logistics, with Huurre sandwich panels playing a key role.

With more than 18,000 m², this fully robotized facility will integrate renewable energy sources (photovoltaic and hydrogen) and undergo large-scale airtightness testing—something never before attempted in a logistics installation of this size.

1. Camí de Mar de la Costa Brava 

This ambitious project aims to connect Argelès (France) with Malgrat de Mar by creating a continuous hiking route along the Costa Brava. The “Camí de Mar” seeks to integrate existing trails and connect with the coastal paths of southern France.

This initiative not only promotes a healthy and accessible physical activity but also fosters inclusion through unified and multisensory signage. Additionally, the project contributes to environmental conservation and the promotion of cultural and ecological education, offering local communities the opportunity to enjoy nature.

2. OncoSwim , Oncotrail and Oncobike 2024 

We have played a key role in the solidarity events organized by the Oncolliga Girona Foundation: OncoSwim, Oncotrail, and OncoBike. These three events aim to raise funds for the fight against cancer.

OncoSwim, a swimming challenge along the coast of Palafrugell; Oncotrail, a 100 km team race; and OncoBike, an endurance cycling event, are much more than just sporting challenges. Every stroke, step, or pedal stroke is an act of solidarity with cancer patients and their families. In 2024, these events raised over €390,000, which will be used to support cancer research and improve the quality of life for patients.

3. Prematch Experience and Environmental Day with the Bàsquet Girona youth team

We have also strengthened our commitment to the community through collaboration with Bàsquet Girona as part of the Planet Passionate Communities program. This initiative aims to promote sports, solidarity, and environmental awareness in an active and participatory way.

Through this collaboration, we not only experienced an unforgettable moment with the Prematch Experience and the game between Bàsquet Girona and Fundación CB Granada but also took a significant step toward a more responsible future. Thanks to our participation in the Environmental Day, we carried out an important waste collection activity along the Ter River, involving the youth players of Bàsquet Girona, the Brigada Salabret, and Huurre Ibérica employees.

4. Sèlvans Project: Conservation of the HUURRE Centenary Forest

This project focuses on the preservation of 45.77 hectares of the “Bosc Centenari HUURRE,” a mixed forest located in Caldes de Malavella. In collaboration with the Sèlvans organization, we have invested in the conservation of this important ecosystem, ensuring its protection at least until 2034. This initiative is part of our commitment to the protection of mature forests and promoting forest bathing as an activity for reconnecting with nature and personal well-being.

The building stands between 9 and 10 metres tall, with its façade featuring HI-PIR STM panels manufactured by Huurre.

The fire originated in the electrical box located within the office area of the warehouse. When the employee who noticed the smoke opened the door, airflow entered, intensifying the situation. The hot, dark smoke quickly descended and spread through the wood and polycarbonate of the office, making it impossible to extinguish it manually.

Over 50% of the roof skylights melted, indicating that temperatures exceeded 300ºC. Despite the intense heat, the warehouse’s metal structure remained intact, and neither the façade nor the roof panels collapsed.
